As a dental consultant to a department of health, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) asked you to review the attached studies and decide based on the quality and critical appraisal of the evidence whether the department should consider including dental care in all of its prenatal health care clinics.  The CMO has expertise in evidence-based health care and public health planning and she has often stated that all decisions should be based on the best science and consideration of the benefits to the public.

You have been asked to prepare a plan that addresses how access to dental care problem could be improved in your community.  The report describing your solutions should focus on the following

  1. Definition of what do you consider “lack or reduced access to dental care”
  2. How will you address the assumption that by improving access to dental care disparities in oral health will be reduced?
  3. The process and effect theories to improve access to dental care
  4. Evidence (and citations) supporting your positions using the hierarchy of evidence that we have described in the course
  5. What social network you should develop for your plan to succeed?

  3. Advanced dental hygiene practitioners will provide more cost-efficient care

A dentist contacted you to complain on the new ADA clinical recommendation that professional topical fluoride applications are not recommended for low-caries risk children?  Discuss the pros and cons of this proposed policy and how evidence-based recommendations should be used?

Question 6

A community dental health clinic asked you to prepare a surveillance system for dental problems in children aged 0-5 years.  Describe each component of the system that you will propose and explain why?

Explain how you may design a social marketing campaign to promote early screening for early childhood caries before the age of 2 years?

Discuss the statement that the evidence does not support oral cancer screening campaign?

Question 9

Discuss the recommendation that sealants can be applied on non-cavitated pits and fissure of posterior teeth?

Question 10

Develop a logic model to reduce dental caries prevalence by 50% in school children in a low-income community where your community health center is located.
